Safeway 1 bounced back from their last game’s loss defeating the outnumbered SVI Kabalyeros, 61-50. Safeway’s chief playmaker, Ilagan scored 22 game high points,

15 of which came from his five three-pointers. SVI’s premier

forward, Guaring led his team once more contributing 19 markers.

SVI had the game in control during the first half of play through their balanced offense leading at 33-25 at the end of the second canto. Safeway 1 got back to their scoring groove in the second quarter posting 22 points to offset their lack luster three-point performance in the opening quarter. SVI’s small contingent of eight players lost steam at the second half scoring only five points in the third quarter against Safeway 1’s 17. Safeway 1 showed their balanced attack in the second half with six players contributing in each quarter.

They took the lead during the third canto and continued on to pad the lead against the tired Kabalyeros. The game ended with Safeway 1 enjoying an 11 point bubble at 61-50.

The Johnver Nuggets stopped the Kaizen Wizards win streak at two wins and started a win streak of their own with their 67-65 victory over the Wizards. These two teams are now tied at the top of the team standings with a 2-1 record. The Nuggets court-general / childstar De Guzman led the Nuggets in scoring with 16 markers to his name. Kaizen’s 1-2 punch, Torres and Dizon scored 19 and 18 points respectively.

The Kaizen Wizards scored

22 points in the opening quarter to show their fire-power in offense but the Nuggets were not far behind with 17 points. Kaizen’s big three of Torres, Dizon, and M. Manio was responsible for all these 22 first quarter points while the Nuggets spread the offense with six players contributing. The Nuggets fought back in the succeeding quarters with their defense

and balanced offensive attack outscoring Kaizen in the next three quarters. They ended the third quarter with only a point deficit, 47-48. The Nuggets

completed their comeback as they scored 20 points in the closing quarter against Kaizen’s 17, ending the game with a two point advantage, 67-65.

The SVI Kabalyeros marked their tournament debut with a win over the Johnver Nuggets, 49-45. SVI’s Guaring top-billed for the Kabalyeros scoring 16 points. For the Nuggets, no player scored in double figures with the points scattered among its players.

The game seemed to be a one-sided affair during the first half as SVI took advantage of the absence of the Nuggets

ace play maker / childstar, De Guzman. SVI took the early lead in the game and padded the lead to double figures when the

first half ended. The first half was also a witness to the tournament’s first injury with SVI’s Ragudo getting a cut on the eyebrow as he received an elbow from the Nuggets #42.

The game took an interesting turn in the second half when De Guzman finally arrived (grand entrance) during the third quarter. The Nuggets completed their comeback in the fourth quarter as they took the lead for the first time in the game. However, the Nuggets failed to capitalize on their free-throws which could have made them hang on to the lead. The Kabalyeros answered back with their own rally with only a minute left in the game to snatch back the lead and win the game.

The Kaizen Wizards continued on their winning ways as they zoomed past Safeway 1, 74-60. Kaizen’s Torres and Dizon led their team in offense contributing 21 points each. Lyago of Safeway 1 played his first game for Safeway 1 scoring 26

game and season high points.

The Wizards and Safeway 1 played a close first half. It seemed that the Wizards were on scouting mode in the first half observing what must be done against Safeway 1. The Wizards scored mostly on jumpers and outside shots. Kaizen controlled the game on both ends of the floor limiting Safeway 1’s Lectura and Ilagan in scoring. Safeway 1’s Laygo kept the game close by firing 13 points before the 1^st half ended.

After the half, the Wizards showed how to play the game with their field goals coming mostly from assists. Kaizen’s passing game did wonders to break Safeway 1’s defense as the Wizards erected a 17 point lead at one

point in the 2^nd half. In the fourth quarter, Safeway 1 upped their intensity a notch with Sison’s pressure defense. They were able to cut the Kaizen’s lead to 6. However, the Wizards showed their teamwork and composure as the game progressed, ending the game with a double digit victory over their opponents.
